Twilight-Hysteria: Vampires and Teen-Blood

Munich. He is pale, he wears worn out shirts most of the time and apparently he rarely takes a shower. His co-star hates parties and gets caught with straggly hair constantly.
Robert Pattinson (23) and Kristen Stewart (19) attach great importance to an unglamorous lifestyle. Yet they are role models for millions of teenagers all across the globe. They are the stars of the "twilight"-vampire movies - the most successful movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's bestseller. There is hysteria wherever these two go to. Not even a real vampire could cause worse screaming.

"It may seem so but this is not our everyday life," says Stewart after her appearing infront of the screaming crowd. She is styled ungirlie on purpose and acts shyly. Pattinson rubs his beard and clearly enjoys being a guy with edges.

We are told that personal questions are not allowed. Otherwise the press conference would be cancelled immediately. They take good care of those three. It stands open if they like it. As well as the question how it will go on after the saga gets finished. Maybe the fans have to calm down first, agrees Pattinson: "If you are in the eye of the storm, there are many things you don't notice"

The Twilight-Visit

The appearance of the young actors together with the director Chris Weitz is the highlight of the Youth-Evening of the Munich Six-Day-Run of this year. Pattinson was highly impressed by the reception: "I try to memorize this," says the 23 year-old heartthrob. But you could barley understand more of what was said onstage because of the screams.

The appearance of Pattinon, Lautner and Stewart in the Olympiahalle took only about fifteen minutes. The following press conference with the cast and director Weitz got hold under strict rules. Taking pictures got along with a dismissal. Asking private questions were taboo as well. Especially the question, if Pattinson and Stewart were dating was an important one for the tabloid press.

"You walk along the street and you see people screaming and you keep asking yourself 'why?'," says Pattinson. Especially during the shooting in Italy he felt making theatre, says director Weitz.
